Sperm morphology

Low sperm fertility rate is in many cases associated with an accumulation of morphological abnormalities of individual spermatozoa.

Characterization of individual sperm morphology is usually performed by light microscopy, sometimes combined with specific dyes.

Scanning electron microscopy can also provide valuable contributions here due to its higher resolution. Individual features – such as the extension of the acrosome – can also be additionally highlighted using adapted image processing and AI.

In strucTEM Measure, simple image processing of SEM images is possible instantaneously online. Additional options are available in the desktop version.
